Mill Pond Cannery and Preserves Company

It began with some observations, then an idea...infused with a philosophy, and firmly grounded in our beliefs about the food we eat.  The increasingly complex and mysterious global food systems were showing some frightening cracks and flaws.  Food safety scares.  Small-scale farmers struggling to make a living.  A stunning lack of transparency regarding the origin of our food and the ingredients in foods we consumer every day.  The loss of heritage varieties of fruit as a result of the increasingly 'mono-culture' practices of contemporary agricultural inputs.  The increasing commoditization and standardization of our food.  The increasing use of refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup in so many of the foods we eat...well, the list of observations got pretty long.

The idea...why not eat products that incorporate what's grown in our own lush and high-quality orchards and farmland?  Why not support small family-owned farms and orchards?  Why not tell consumers where their food comes from?  Why not get back to the 'original' and natural sweeteners, such as honey and maple syrup?  Why not build a company and a product line that embodies these beliefs?  And Mill Pond Cannery and Preserves Company was born...

Sometime in 2010, visitors will be able to visit the production site of Mill Pond Cannery and Preserves, in beautiful Prince Edward County.  A remarkable and historic mill property has been acquired, and plans are underway to undertake an 'adaptive reuse' project to convert this lovely mill into a production facility, and a place where visitors can view and learn about the traditional kettle-cooking process for our fruit butters, and enjoy the 'Mill Pond' experience.

Our Logo

We’ve had great feedback on our logo. Thank you!  We are very pleased as well. Thanks to Carl for his execution of our exacting vision for this artwork.

Here’s what our logo means…

Our logo highlights the mill building’s agricultural and industrial silhouette while referencing Bloomfield’s industrious past;  specifically, Bloomfield’s importance to the canning industry in the last century and, hence, the canning label-inspired graphics.  The mill pond, which in past times was the engine for the mill production, shimmers with the sunlight that also bathes the mill building.  The colours in the logo are a fresh take on the traditional colours of the agricultural buildings that dot Prince Edward County.
